Rockhurst Welcomes Students to Summer Institute
Students from Hogan Preparatory Academy in Kansas City, Mo., enjoyed a glimpse into college life during their weeklong stay at Rockhurst University’s Interdisciplinary Summer Institute. The theme was “College Prep,” and the experience offered just that – with students being issued ID badges, eating on campus, sleeping in residence halls and, most importantly, participating in classroom lectures.
Twenty Hogan Prep students, along with several faculty members and current Rockhurst student helpers, met each day in scheduled classes to discuss various subjects. The biology class was led by Laura Salem, Ph.D., and Mindy Walker, Ph.D.; chemistry by Annie Lee, Ph.D.; and mathematics by Zdenka Guadarrama, Ph.D. The Summer Institute also welcomed back special guest speaker and Rockhurst alumnus Glenn North, who is poet in residence and education specialist at the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, Mo.
