Celebrating the Rev. James Wheeler, S.J.
Rockhurst University recently renamed the Science Center in honor of the Rev. James D. Wheeler, S.J., for his 55 years of service as a chemistry professor. Although Fr. Wheeler was extremely honored by this gesture, he requested that the building be named for St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus and the primary patron of the University. We admire Fr. Wheeler's gesture to honor the saint whose life and work continue to inspire us today. Going forward, the building will be known as the St. Ignatius Science Center.
The Rev. James D. Wheeler, S.J., is a familiar face to anyone in the Rockhurst community. Whether you encountered him in a chemistry class, through Alpha Phi Omega or just around campus, you likely have a sense of this challenging professor's connection to his students and dedication to his vocation. After 55 years of commitment to Rockhurst, the University honored him with a reception during Family and Alumni Weekend
