Baseball: Rockhurst falls short at NCAA Midwest Regional
Rockhurst rallied late to force extra innings before falling to 15th-ranked Indianapolis, 9-6, in 10 innings in the NCAA Midwest Regional finals Sunday at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The fifth-seeded Hawks end the season with a 35-19 record. Top-seeded Indianapolis, 46-14, advances to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C., May 26-June 2.
Rockhurst tied the game at 6-6 on a two-run double by Josh Samuelson with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Indianapolis scored three runs in the top of the 10th behind a pair of two-out singles.
Junior shortstop Anthony Davis led the Hawks with four hits and two runs scored. Senior first baseman Ryan Porter and Samuelson added two hits apiece. Rockhurst’s Porter, second baseman Derrick Jones and left fielder Brandon Tangney were named to the Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team.
