Baseball: Hawks stay alive at NCAA Midwest Regional

Rockhurst stayed alive at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a 10-5 victory over ninth-ranked Grand Valley State Saturday night at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The fifth-seeded Hawks, 35-18, will face top-seeded Indianapolis at noon Sunday. Rockhurst will need to defeat Indianapolis twice on Sunday to
win the regional and earn a trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C., May 26-June 2. Sunday's second game, if needed, will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Rockhurst scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 6-4 lead. The Hawks added four runs in the seventh with the aid of four Grand Valley errors. Anthony Davis and T.J. Dailey both finished with three hits and two RBIs to lead the Hawks. Zach Loeffelholz evened his record at 3-3 while allowing eight hits over eight innings.

Earlier Saturday, the Hawks exploded for 14 runs, but could not stop the Indianapolis bats in a 21-14 loss to the 15th-ranked Greyhounds. Rockhurst scored six runs in the fifth inning to take an 11-10 lead. Indianapolis responded by scoring three runs in the sixth and six more in the seventh to take a 19-11 lead. The Greyhounds pounded out 22 hits and received 13 free passes.

T.J. Dailey, Derrick Jones and Jordan Stull each had three hits among the Hawks’ 17 hits. Stull drove in a team-high three runs. Ryan Porter and Brandon Tangney added two hits apiece.
