Baseball: Hawks remain unbeaten at NCAA Regional
Mark Himmelberg and Josh Samuelson held Northern Kentucky to four hits to lead Rockhurst to a 6-1 victory Friday on the second day of the NCAA Midwest Regional at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The fifth-seeded Hawks, 34-17, will meet top-seeded Indianapolis at 10 a.m. Saturday in the double-elimination regional. Rockhurst and Indianapolis are the only unbeaten teams left in the regional. Fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky and second-seeded Grand Valley State will play an elimination game at 1:30 pm Saturday.
Himmelberg struck out six and walked three over seven innings to improve his record to 8-2. Samuelson did not allow a base-runner over the final two innings.
Sean Carter went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the nine-hit Rockhurst attack. Samuelson drove in two runs with a pair of RBI singles. Brandon Tangney added an RBI double in the eighth and Kirk Huismann singled home the final run in the ninth.
