Baseball: Hawks blank Lewis in GLVC Tournament
Senior right-hander Mark Himmelberg threw a five-hit shutout to lead Rockhurst to a 4-0 win over Lewis (Ill.) on the second day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Tournament Friday in Evansville, Ind.
Himmelberg (7-2) struck out five and walked one in pitching his second consecutive shutout. He has thrown 21 consecutive scoreless innings while lowering his season ERA to 2.48.
Senior first baseman Ryan Porter gave Rockhurst a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the first inning. Porter added an RBI double in the sixth and T.J. Dailey singled home the final run in the eighth. Porter now leads the team with 18 doubles and 52 RBIs.
The Hawks, 32-15, will play Indianapolis, 39-14, on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the third day of the tournament. A victory on Saturday would put Rockhurst into Sunday’s championship game against Northern Kentucky or Missouri-St. Louis.
