Rockhurst Theater to Close Season with "You Can't Take it With You"

The final performance for Rockhurst Theatre’s current season will be You Can’t Take It With You, the 1936 classic American comedy by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman and winner of the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, will be performed in Mabee Theater inside Sedgwick Hall at 7:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, April 23 and 24, and 2:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26.

The play centers around the Vanderhof household where anarchy and eccentricity reign as family members pursue their individual paths. Included in this eclectic mix are Grandpa, the free-spirited patriarch who keeps snakes and doesn’t believe in paying taxes; Penny, a distracted playwright; Essie, a candymaker and aspiring, but inept, ballerina; Paul, a tinkerer who makes firecrackers in the basement; and Alice, the “normal one,” who has an office job.

Incredibly, this menagerie functions well until Alice falls in love and the IRS knocks at the Vanderhof’s door.
