Visiting Scholar to Discuss the Future of American Conservatism
The Visiting Scholar Lecture Series brings Prairie Village, Kansas, native Ramesh Ponnuru to campus to deliver the Alpha Sigma Nu/Rev. F. Vincent Daues, S.J., lecture, “The Future of Conservatism,” at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, in Rockhurst University’s Mabee Theater inside Sedgwick Hall.
Ponnuru’s prominence as a senior editor for National Review magazine and as a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute has given him a distinctive perspective on the state of “movement conservatism,” the Republican Party, and the ideological synergies and fissures on the right in the American political spectrum.
After graduating from Shawnee Mission East High School at the age of 15, Ponnuru attended Princeton University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in history. After graduation, Ponnuru began a career as a journalist, publishing articles in The New York Times, Financial Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, Newsday, First Things, Policy Review, Reason, The New Republic, The Weekly Standard, Time Magazine, and others. He is a regular columnist for Bloomberg View.
Ponnuru is also a frequent guest on television programs dedicated to political discussion, including CNN’s “Inside Politics,” NBC’s “The McLaughlin Group,” CNBC’s “Kudlow & Cramer,” MSNBC’s “Buchanan & Press” and “Donahue,” PBS’s “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,” CSPAN’s “Washington Journal,” Comedy Central’s “Politically Incorrect,” and Fox News and NPR’s “Morning Edition.”
