Baseball: Hawks drop pair at Quincy
Rockhurst dropped a pair of one-run games at Quincy while stranding 22 runners on base Saturday to fall into third place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division. Sunday’s doubleheader at Quincy was rained out.
A four-run eighth inning led Quincy to a 7-6 win in the first game. Josh Samuelson’s three-run home run in the ninth cut Quincy’s lead to one run. Rockhurst scored three runs in the second to grab a 3-1 lead. T.J. Dailey collected two of Rockhurst’s seven hits in the game.
Quincy scored an unearned run in the second inning to edge Rockhurst 2-1 in the second game. Ryan Porter singled home RU’s lone run in the third. Scott Bradbury and Derrick Jones each posted two hits. Mark Sappington (7-3) took the loss, striking out five in seven innings.
The Hawks (27-15, 17-12 GLVC) return home to face Illinois Springfield in a pair of doubleheaders, May 5-6.
