Baseball: Sappington earns GLVC pitching honor

Rockhurst junior pitcher Mark Sappington has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week. Sappington earns his second weekly honor of the year following a week that saw him post wins against the top two teams in the GLVC West Division.

In a 7-1 victory at Missouri S&T on Monday, Sappington went the full seven innings with 12 strikeouts, five hits, no walks, and no unearned runs. He was back on the mound Saturday, throwing a complete game victory in a 4-3 decision over Drury. He registered three strikeouts and allowed six hits in seven innings of work.

For the week, Sappington registered a 0.64 ERA over 14 innings, striking out 15 batters while walking only one. He has a 7-2 record with a 1.80 ERA this season.
