“TEXT ME” to Premiere at Plays-in-Progress Workshop
Rockhurst University’s Plays-in-Progress Workshop will present a debut reading of the spring 2013 playwriting contest winner, “TEXT ME” by Traci and Riley Findley, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, in Sedgwick Hall, Room 115.
The Plays-in-Progress Workshop is an annual contest sponsored by Rockhurst University in which the public is invited to submit manuscripts that have neither been given a public reading nor been performed on stage. The selected playwright will interact with the actors, director and audience members who will assess the creative work.
“TEXT ME” was chosen as the spring 2013 production. In the script, the playwrights ask: Is the evolution of social media drawing us closer together and making us feel more connected? Or, are we depriving ourselves from physical interaction, thereby creating an atmosphere of separation and isolation? “TEXT ME” examines a family’s experience attempting to navigate the impact of technology in their lives.
Sedgwick Hall is located on Rockhurst University’s campus at 54th Street and Troost Avenue. Refreshments will be provided; donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, call 816-501-4607 or go to www.rockhurst.edu/center-arts-letters.
