Softball: Hawks sweep William Jewell
Katelyn Bakey hit a grand slam in the first inning to lead Rockhurst to a 5-4 victory over William Jewell in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday in Liberty, Mo. The Hawks also won the second game, 12-4, in six innings.
Bakey’s home run to left field was her first collegiate home run. Amanda Burger opened with a single, Natalie Johnson doubled and Alex Jacobson was issued a walk. An RBI groundout by Lizzy Tucker in the sixth proved to be the winning run as Jewell scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kayla Hoyer pitched seven innings to get her 14th win of the season.
In the second game, the Hawks scored four runs in the first and the fifth. Alex Jacobson hit a three-run home run in the first. Kayla Thomas added a two-run double in the fifth. Tucker went 3-for-3. Debbie Lewis, Burger, Jacobson, Bakey and Thomas each added two hits. Megan Holm won her fourth game of the season.
The Hawks, 19-29, 14-18 GLVC, return home to host Drury in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
