Men's Golf: Hawks fall in GLVC match play semifinals
Rockhurst fell to Northern Kentucky, 4-1, in the match play semifinals Tuesday at the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship at the Country Club of Paducah in Paducah, Ky. No. 1 seeded Northern Kentucky went on to defeat second-seeded Indianapolis 3-2 in the match play finals. Freshman Tanner Bulejski accounted for Rockhurst's lone point against Northern Kentucky. He shot a 71 to best NKU's Michael Schmidt by five shots in the No. 2 singles match.
Rockhurst held on at the end of the third round Monday to claim fourth place after 54 holes. The Hawks shot a 311 in the third round to edge Maryville by one shot for fourth place. Rockhurst jumped from eighth to third with a second-round 308 earlier Monday. The Hawks opened with a 326 in the opening round on Sunday.
Senior Clarke Fry (81-77-73) and Bulejski (80-73-78) tied for fifth place overall with a 231 score over 54 holes to earn All-GLVC honors for the Hawks. Junior Dan Schaller finished tied for 24th (239), followed by seniors Josh Kerns (tied for 45th, 246) and Brad Welch (tied for 55th, 252).
