Rockhurst Community Mourns the Loss of Terri LaManno
Rockhurst University is mourning the death of one of its alumni in the tragic shootings Sunday, April 13, in Overland Park, Kan.
Teresa Hastings LaManno was one of three victims killed in separate shootings at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City and the Village Shalom retirement community. A lifelong Kansas City resident, LaManno was a member of St. Peter’s Parish in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated with a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Rockhurst University in 2006 and was employed at the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by the tragedies of the Overland Park shootings,” said the Rev. Thomas B. Curran, president of Rockhurst University. “Terri Hastings LaManno, a 2006 OT alumna, perished while visiting her mother. May her commitment to her mother and the service she provided to the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired inspire all of us to provide service and compassion to those in need and confront hate with the offer of peace.”
Visitation for LaManno is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Parish. Funeral services for LaManno are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, also at St. Peter’s Parish. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. At noon on Wednesday, April 23, Campus Ministry will offer its noon Mass in LaManno’s honor.
Her family has announced plans to establish a scholarship at Rockhurst in her honor.
