Tennis: Hawks earn No. 2 seeds at GLVC Championships

The Rockhurst Hawks have earned the No. 2 seeds for both the 2012 GLVC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, which will be hosted by Drury University in Springfield, Mo., April 20-21. Both Rockhurst squads posted 5-1 conference records to finish second behind Drury in the GLVC West
Division.

On the women’s side, Rockhurst will square off against the East’s No. 3 seed Indianapolis (4-2) at the Gillenwaters Tennis Complex, courts 1-6, on Friday at 8:30 a.m. The winner will advance to play the
Lewis-Quincy winner in the semifinals at 1:30 on Friday at the Cooper Tennis Complex.

The Rockhurst men will face the East’s No. 3 Lewis (3-2) at 11 a.m. on Friday on courts 1-6 at the Gillenwaters Tennis Complex. The winner will advance to play the Southern Indiana-Quincy at 4 p.m. Friday at the Cooper Tennis Complex. Last year, the Hawks won their second GLVC Men’s Tennis Championship with a 5-3 win over Southern Indiana in the finals.

Both the men’s and women’s championship finals will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Cooper Tennis Complex. Third-place matches in both events will only be contested if the matches are played outdoors.
