Softball: Hawks sweep Maryville
A two-run home run by Natalie Johnson powered Rockhurst to an 8-5 victory over Maryville in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday in St. Louis, Mo. The Hawks also won the first game, 4-2.
Johnson’s home run in the fifth inning gave Rockhurst a 6-4 lead. The Hawks added two more runs on a two-run single by
Alex Jacobson in the seventh. Debbie Lewis went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored four runs. Liz Desloge added two hits.
In the first game, the Hawks scored three runs in the first behind RBI doubles from Johnson and Lizzy Tucker. Katelyn Bakey and Tucker both finished with a pair of hits.
Kayla Hoyer was the winning pitcher in both games. She held Maryville to five hits in the opener and came out of the bullpen to pitch the final four innings in the nightcap. Hoyer held the Saints to three runs in the two wins to improve her record to 13-11.
Rockhurst suffered a pair of losses at Missouri-St. Louis, 8-0 and 5-0, on Monday. The Hawks (17-29, 12-18 GLVC) return to action on Wednesday at William Jewell.
