University Daily Update - April 3
Rockhurst companions,
Despite facing a COVID-19 pandemic that pulls us apart physically, we have seen students, faculty and staff work to connect us again as companions, either by adapting midstream to remote learning, providing new programs and initiatives for students in need, or organizing organic Zoom hangouts (showing off pets and home decor in the process). Take a moment and read some important campus updates below, as well as a message from Fr. Curran and a workout video courtesy our MAC staff.
Commencement
Today the University announced the commencement activities scheduled for May, including the May 16 commencement ceremony at Municipal Auditorium, will not be moving forward as planned.
This is no doubt disappointing to many of you who have worked hard to earn your degree, and it is to us as well. But Rockhurst University still intends to celebrate the achievement and contributions of our 2020 graduates. Next week, graduates will receive a survey asking your preferences regarding a rescheduled ceremony or one that would be held virtually. The survey will be sent from Graduation@Rockhurst.edu to your Hawks email account. Please submit your input to inform us as we make a plan to celebrate you in a way that reflects our Rockhurst University community.
Festival of Student Achievement
Because of the campus closure, the Festival of Student Achievement will not be held in person this year, but to honor the hard work, dedication and leadership of our students, FOSA will honor student work publicly in an online format.
We expect that the FOSA program will be online by early May.
The deadline for submission has been extended for those who had a conflict with the original date of April 17 but would like to have their poster or presentation included in the program. To submit an entry for poster sessions click here.
Nominations are also still being accepted for FOSA awards until Friday, April 17. To nominate students for the Student Development and Athletic Awards (Outstanding Student Leader, Living the Mission Emerging Student Leader and Advanced student leader award and more), click here.

Mission Moment
In this week’s video, Fr. Curran talks of the importance of taking care of oneself – mind, body and soul.
