Baseball: Hawks split pair at UMSL
Scott Bradbury and Tyler Gans combined for four hits and five RBIs to carry Rockhurst to a 13-8 victory over Missouri-St. Louis in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday in St. Louis. The Tritons came back to win the second game, 13-11.
The Hawks jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the opener behind an RBI triple from Anthony Davis and run-scoring double from Patrick Chandler in the fourth inning. Rockhurst put the game away with a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and sixth. Bradbury capped the scoring with a solo home run in the seventh. Mark Himmelberg (3-1) pitched the first four innings to get the win.
Bradbury and Gans led the Hawks with three hits apiece in the second game. Ryan Porter and T.J. Dailey added two hits each. Rockhurst took a 9-7 lead with a six-run sixth before UMSL scored twice in the sixth and four times in the seventh.
Chandler drove in four runs to lead Rockhurst to a 6-2 victory over UMSL in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday in St. Louis. The Hawks also won the opener, 6-3, behind an 11-hit attack.
Chandler hit a three-run home run in the seventh for his third hit of the game. Porter and Dailey added two hits apiece. Josh Tols (3-1) went the distance, allowing seven hits and striking out three hitters.
In the first game, Scott Bradbury led the Hawks with three hits. Porter hit a solo home run in the seventh. Jordan Stull added a run-scoring double in the second. Mark Sappington improved his record to 4-2 while striking out 11 in seven innings. Josh Samuelson threw the final two innings to pick up his first save.
The Hawks, 14-10 and 6-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, host William Jewell on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
