Rockhurst University Daily Update
March 25
Rockhurst University Companions,
You will be happy to see that today’s email is shorter! Take a break from your studies and Zoom meetings to catch up on a few Rockhurst updates. For your spiritual comfort, there are two excellent video suggestions in today’s Mission Moment, at the end of the message, in addition to the link where you will be able to join the Kansas City Jesuit community as they celebrate Mass.
Campus Mail
- Copy Cave is now the hub for all mail, including inter-office mail. Please do not deliver campus mail directly to a department and slip it under the door. This includes the business office and human resources.
Faculty and Staff
- Nomination deadlines for faculty awards (Teaching, Brenner) and university awards (Kies, Assessment) are extended until COB May 31. While the awards will be made prior to the end of the fiscal year, our public recognition of the awardees will occur at our All Companions Meeting in August.
- If you have been classified as essential personnel (meaning that you need to visit campus for essential business functions), your supervisor or appropriate Cabinet member likely has let you know that new ID cards are ready for you to pick up at the dispatch window in the Department of Safety and Security. You will be asked to leave your current ID card in exchange for the new card. The new card gives you the same swipe access, photocopy, and other benefits as your current ID card, but denotes you as essential personnel if you are stopped and questioned at any time.
Students
- The university will communicate information related to spring semester refunds by Friday, March 27.
Career Services
- Remember, Career Services is here to support you with career exploration, career preparation and employment connections during these challenging times. Emails, phone calls or Zoom web conferencing are available as we keep the lines of communication open.
- As you prepare your class schedule for the next semester and want to explore your major/minor/career options, we can assist with career exploration exercises.
- Utilize your RU Career Account to explore internship and full-time employment opportunities. Let us know if you have login questions or if you want to establish your account.
- Documents can be reviewed via email.
- Practice interviews can be conducted over the phone or Zoom web conferencing.
- Be prepared for alternative recruiting methods from employers; more phone/web-based interviews, delayed start dates, offers rescinded, etc. But remember that if one door closes, another will open.
- We can help you create a non-traditional career exploration/search plan during these non-traditional times.
- Contact Mike Theobald, mike.theobald@rockhurst.edu or Tina Wendling, christina.wendling@rockhurst.edu
Mission Moment(s)
- The Kansas City Jesuit community is now livestreaming Mass at 5:15 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Virtual congregants are asked to attend “live” if at all possible, and videos will only be available until midnight each day.
- For all of those struggling with where to find God during this deeply unsettling time, we recommend a four-minute video by the Rev. Arturo Sosa, S.J., superior general of the Society of Jesus, titled What Part of a Path to God Does COVID-19 Show Us?
- An additional resource to help you find God in all things is “Discernment in the Cave,” a four-part Ignatian digital retreat for a pandemic.
