Baseball: Rockhurst wins final game on Sunday
Josh Tols blanked Saint Joseph's on three hits to lead Rockhurst to a 6-0 victory over the Pumas in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday in Rensselaer, Ind. Tols struck out eight and walked two in seven innings on the mound. Ryan Porter led the Hawks with three hits and three RBIs. He singled home runs in the first and seventh, and hit an RBI double in the fifth. Scott Bradbury added two RBIs on three hits.
The Hawks dropped the first game, 2-1. Saint Joseph's scored the go-ahead run in the seventh. T.J. Dailey homered in the sixth to tie the game. Mark Himmelberg (2-1) allowed seven hits and struck out eight in eight innings.
Indianapolis pounded out 12 hits off three Rockhurst pitchers in posting a 13-6 win over the Hawks in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in Indianapolis. The Greyhounds scored four runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-5 lead. Indianapolis added five insurance runs in the seventh. Ryan Porter and T.J. Dailey led the Hawks with two hits apiece. Porter hit a two-run home run in the fifth. Mark Sappington gave up seven runs in four innings to fall to 3-2 on the season.
In the second game, Indy’s Drake Donovan blanked the Hawks on five hits in a 3-0 win. Donovan halted a one-out rally in the seventh with the tying run at the plate.
The Hawks, 10-9 and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, play a four-game weekend series at Missouri-St. Louis beginning on Saturday, March 31.
