Rockhurst University Daily Update
March 18
Rockhurst University Companions,
We have received positive feedback about the amount of communication we are providing to you. We realize that for some it will be way too much and for some not enough. We will continue to send a daily update to faculty, staff and students at the close of each day until we find that it’s no longer necessary.
Reminders
- There will be no synchronous classes Friday to give students time to move out of campus residences and faculty time for planning. Faculty are asked to work with any students who are scheduled to move out Monday during a scheduled class time.
- All messages that we’re sending to faculty, staff and students are being posted at www.rockhurst.edu/coronavirus. We want everyone to be able to see what is being sent to all audiences.
Help Desk
- Help Desk staff will work with callers to assign times on Thursday and Friday for callers to come to campus to resolve issues that cannot be resolved over the phone or to install software. You will be asked to come to campus and connect your laptop to the WiFi from Rockhurst Road or any campus lobby. This helps minimize potential risk to you and to staff.
- We are researching tools that would allow Help Desk staff to remote control a workstation that is not attached to the network and hope to make that available soon.
Workout Facilities
- The MAC is closed due to staffing limitations but we have made alternate arrangements for exercise opportunities. The Massman Hall weight room will be open for student, faculty and staff use from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The Convocation Center gymnasium will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. In addition, the soccer field will be available for outdoor activities. Social distancing and group size limitations will be observed in all recreational facilities.
Payroll Procedures
- As indicated in the FAQs for Supervisors, employees who become ill due to COVID-19 (i.e. they have been diagnosed with the virus or are symptomatic) and are unable to work (either on campus or remotely), and the employee has or is anticipating exhausting all accrued sick time and vacation time, supervisors should direct the employee to consult with Human Resources. An earnings code has been established in Paycom that will be used by exempt and non-exempt employees to record their time in these situations.
Communications Roundup
- Today, faculty and staff received information about business operations and registration, and students received information about registration.
- We’re working to better organize the information on www.rockhurst.edu/coronavirus so that you can more easily find the information that applies to you.
Mission Moment
- Fr. Curran recommends “Lockdown,” a poem by Brother Richard Henry, a Capuchin-Franciscan priest-friar that beautifully expresses our Jesuit core value of “Finding God in All Things.” We hope you will find it comforting and meaningful.
