Rockhurst Student Choruses Perform American Standards
The Rockhurst University Chorus, under the direction of Timothy L. McDonald, Ph.D., and the Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorale, under the direction of Kristana Weiler, DMA, have selected music from The Great American Songbook for students to perform in their spring concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, in Massman Hall on the Rockhurst University campus.
The Great American Songbook is a term and classification used to describe “the best” 20th-century songs from the 1920s to the 1960s from Broadway, Hollywood, New Orleans and Tin Pan Alley.
The program will include music associated with artists and writers such as Duke Ellington (“Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”), Ella Fitzgerald (“A Tisket-a-Tasket”), Johnny Mercer (“Skylark”), Jerome Kern (“The Way You Look Tonight”) and Billie Holiday (“God Bless the Child”).
The concert is free and no tickets are required. For more information, contact Weiler at (816) 501-4741.
