RU film series

The Rockhurst University Film Series and the University’s Department of Philosophy will present three films on consecutive Wednesdays in March. Philosophy faculty will introduce the films and conduct post-film discussions.

 The series begins with Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Conversation” (1974) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14. This film examines the issues of responsibility and privacy when a surveillance expert makes the mistake of becoming too involved in one of his assignments.

 The second installment is “The Island” (2005), directed by Michael Bay at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21. In a futuristic underground city, two people try to escape when they discover that they are being kept as a source of replacement body parts.

 Tom McCarthy’s “Win Win” (2011) concludes the series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28. A middle-aged storefront lawyer who moonlights as a wrestling coach finds challenges at every turn after taking in a runaway boy who doesn’t seem to fit into a middle-class lifestyle.

All films will be shown in Mabee Theater, located in Sedgwick Hall on the Rockhurst University campus, 54th Street and Troost Avenue. Tickets, sold at the door, are $7 for the series or $3 for each film.
