The Rockhurst University film series and the Rockhurst Department of Theology and Religious Studies will present three films on consecutive Wednesdays in March. Faculty from the department will introduce the films and conduct post-film discussions.

The series will begin with Agnieszka Holland’s “The Third Miracle” on Wednesday, March 13. This film examines the story of a Roman Catholic priest who, while in the midst of a crisis of faith, is sent by his bishop to investigate the life of a woman. The woman, after her death, is being proclaimed a saint by members of her parish. Craig Prentiss, Ph.D., will introduce this film.

Michael Apted’s “Amazing Grace,” the second film in the series, will be shown on Wednesday, March 20. This film captures the life and times of 18th-century reformer William Wilberforce, who led the campaign against slave trade in the British Empire. Joann Spillman, Ph.D., will introduce this film.

As the final film of the series, Margarethe von Trotta’s “Vision—From the Life of Hildegard von Bingen” will be shown on Wednesday, March 27. This film tells the story of German nun Hildegard von Bingen, known as a composer and religious visionary, whose assertive personality often put her at odds with the patriarchal society of her time. Glenn Young, Ph.D., will introduce the final film.

All films will be shown at 7 p.m. in Mabee Theater, located in Sedgwick Hall on the Rockhurst University Campus, 54th Street and Troost Avenue. Admission, at the door, is $3 or $7 for the series.
