Sodexo Recognized for Excellence in Food Safety
For the fourth year in a row, Rockhurst University’s food service provider has earned top marks from the Kansas City Health Department.
Sodexo food service officials announced this week that the Planet Sub and Starbucks locations at Rockhurst earned Grade A Food Safety Excellence awards from the health department.
It’s the fourth consecutive year those areas of Sodexo’s operations at Rockhurst have been recognized for food safety, sanitation and employee education efforts with this award. According to information from the city, the award is designed to “recognize those facilities that take the initiative to go above and beyond health code requirements to excel in sanitation and food safety.”
According to Michael Johnson, the general manager for Sodexo campus services at Rockhurst, fewer than 10 percent of all food service operations inspected by the Kansas City Health Department received the award in 2013. Johnson said receiving the recognition was an accomplishment shared by all of the members of the staff.
“Sodexo takes food safety very seriously as a company and spends a lot of time, money and resources in training our staff to follow safe food handling procedures,” he said. “An award of this nature is the culmination of our staff embracing these policies and we commend our employees for these awards."
