Baseball: Sappington named GLVC Pitcher of the Week

Rockhurst's Mark Sappington has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
 
Sappington pitched 9.0 innings with a 0.00 ERA this past week, striking out 17 batters and allowing just one unearned run off four hits. The junior right-hander opened the week by holding Washburn scoreless on two hits over 6.0 innings in his second start of the season, while striking out 11 and not allowing a walk. He also pitched three scoreless innings in relief in a win over Saginaw Valley State in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sunday to post his first save of the season. He registered six strikeouts and two hits in that contest.

In 15 innings pitched this season, Sappington has a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA with 24 strikeouts and only one walk while allowing nine hits.
