Rockhurst Student Examines Economics Through Lens of Art
Rockhurst University senior Luke Pretz makes his curatorial debut in the Greenlease Gallery with an invitational group exhibition titled Exchange, which opens with a 6:30 p.m. curatorial talk by Pretz followed by a 7-9 p.m. reception Friday, April 29.
Pretz, who is an economics, philosophy and math major, will explore the conceptual and practical views of economics through art.
The exhibition brings together works in a variety of media that reflect the current economy’s impact on human lives. “As a student, I have always been interested in applying an interdisciplinary approach to the questions I sought to answer,” Pretz said. “Exchange seeks to introduce the arts as a new and effective means of investigation to shed light on how we should understand economics.”
Pretz received a dean’s fellowship for his senior project, which culminates with the Exchange exhibition. Pretz has worked in the Greenlease Gallery as a curatorial assistant since his freshman year at the university.
The Greenlease Gallery is located between Van Ackeren and Sedgwick halls on the Rockhurst University campus, 54th Street and Troost Avenue. The exhibition continues through May 13. The gallery is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. For more information, contact Greenlease Gallery Director at (816) 501-4407.
