Musica Sacra Celebrates 20th Season With Haydn’s Salve Regina
Musica Sacra Chorus and Orchestra continues its 20th anniversary celebration with music by Haydn, Buxtehude, Telemann and Donizetti at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, in St. Francis Xavier Church, 52nd Street and Troost Avenue.
Musica Sacra will perform Franz Joseph Haydn’s Salve Regina in G minor. This rarely performed piece was composed around 1771, five years after Haydn became Kapellmeister to the court at Eisenstadt, Austria. In addition, Musica Sacra will perform Alles was ihr tut, a cantata by Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707), a middle Baroque German composer. Two brief works by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) and Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) complete the program.
