Softball: Hawks win pair in Arkansas
The Rockhurst Hawks posted their first two wins of the season on the final day of the Arkansas-Monticello 5-State Classic Sunday in Bentonville, Ark.
A four-run fourth inning led the Hawks to a 7-3 win over Lincoln. Katelyn Bakey singled home two runs and Natalie Johnson added an RBI single in the fourth. Alex Jacobson put the Hawks in front 3-0 in the second with a two-run single. Bakey and Jacobson both went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the 10-hit offensive attack. Kayla Hoyer pitched the final four innings to collect her first win of the season.
Johnson collected four hits to lead Rockhurst to a 4-3 win over Missouri Southern. Johnson singled in front of Lizzy Tucker’s two home run in the fourth. She also doubled in the first and tripled in the seventh. Gina Mackevicius was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI single in the fourth. Kayla Thomas drove in the final run with a groundout in the fifth. Megan Holm went the distance on the mound to post the victory.
The Hawks, 2-7, open conference at home against Southern Indiana on Thursday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
