William Jewell rallied from an eight-point deficit in the second half to defeat Rockhurst 88-83 Thursday night in Liberty, Mo. The Hawks took a 62-54 lead with 9:16 left in the game on a three-point basket by Brandon McCann. Jewell scored the next 10 points to take a two-point lead. The Cardinals scored their last 11 points of the game at the foul line. McCann led the Hawks with 21 points and three steals. Najja Nicholson scored 17 points. James Robinson (12) and Russell Burns (10) also scored in double figures. The Hawks, 7-19, finish the season with a 4-14 record in the GLVC.
Drury 75, Rockhurst 48 (Feb. 18): The Panthers ran away from Rockhurst in the second half behind 11-0 and 14-0 runs. Martin Roper II hit seven of nine field goals to lead the Hawks with 14 points. Najja Nicholson added 10 points and three assists.
Missouri S&T 73, Rockhurst 72, OT (Feb. 16): A 70-foot game-winning shot by James Robinson swished through the net at the end of overtime, but it was too late. Robinson's shot left his hand just after the final buzzer went off. Robinson tied the score with 19 seconds left in overtime with a 3-point shot. S&T was fouled with four seconds left and hit one of two free throws. Brandon McCann led the Hawks with 17 points and four assists. Robinson posted 12 points, six assists and four steals. Russell Burns added 13 points. Martin Roper II scored 10 points in his final home game.
Illinois Springfield 82, Rockhurst 63 (Feb. 11): Rockhurst rallied from a 38-27 halftime deficit to pull within six points at the 14:42 mark in the second half. Kareem Amedu came off the bench to lead the Hawks with 14 points and eight rebounds. Cooper Beckett posted career highs with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon McCann sank three three-point shots to finish with 11 points. James Robinson added 10 points and four rebounds.
Quincy 75, Rockhurst 61 (Feb. 9): Quincy outscored Rockhurst, 40-22, in the paint and also won the rebound battle, 39-21. Rockhurst's Kareem Amedu scored a team-high 11 points off the bench. Brandon McCann and Martin Roper II both finished with 10 points. Russell Burns and Najja Nicholson combined for 18 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Maryville 73, Rockhurst 64 (Feb. 9): Maryville shot 52.3 percent from the field and held Rockhurst to 37.5 percent shooting. Brandon McCann led the Hawks with 19 points and five 3-point field goals. James Robinson added 13 points. Russell Burns collected eight points and eight rebounds. Cooper Beckett scored eight points and Najja Nicholson made five steals.
Rockhurst 70, Missouri-St. Louis 63 (Feb. 2): The Hawks outscored the Tritons 17-3 over the final six minutes. James Robinson put Rockhurst in front, 66-63, on a three-point play at the 1:53 mark. Brandon McCann led the Hawks with 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Robinson posted 12 points and five rebounds. Tom Shirley matched a career-high with 11 points. Cooper Beckett added nine points and seven rebounds.
Drury 67, Rockhurst 58 (Jan. 28): Drury scored 10 unanswered points down the stretch to pull away from the Hawks. Rockhurst had rallied from eight points down to tie the game at 51-all with 8:56 left to play. Brandon McCann led the Hawks with 13 points and three steals. James Robinson posted 12 points. Martin Roper II collected 11 points and five rebounds. Liam Duffy added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Missouri S&T 70, Rockhurst 56 (Jan. 26): An 18-5 run in the second half led Missouri S&T past the Hawks. The victory broke a 12-game losing streak to Rockhurst, dating back to 2001. Martin Roper II led the Hawks with 15 points and seven rebounds. Brandon McCann added 12 points and three assists.
Missouri-St. Louis 70, Rockhurst 58 (Jan. 21): The Tritons hit nine of 10 free throws in the final four minutes to hold off Rockhurst. The Tritons were also hot from the outside, canning nine-of-22 3-point field goals. Freshman Liam Duffy paced the Hawks with a career-high 13 points. Duffy connected on three 3-point field goals. Martin Roper II posted 11 points and seven rebounds.
Rockhurst 55, Maryville 53 (Jan. 19): The Hawks survived a late rally to break a six-game losing streak. Maryville missed a go-ahead 3-point shot with three seconds left in the game. James Robinson led the Hawks with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Martin Roper II posted 11 points and six rebounds. Najja Nicholson added 10 points and three assists.
William Jewell 64, Rockhurst 61 (Jan. 16): The Hawks misfired on a pair of 3-point shots in the final four seconds after the Cardinals broke a 61-all tie on a 3-point shot by Chris Uz with 18 seconds left. The lead changed hands 10 times in the second half. James Robinson led the Hawks with 17 points and four rebounds. Tom Shirley posted a career-high 11 points and six rebounds. Kareem Amedu added 10 points, three blocks and two steals.
Southern Indiana 63, Rockhurst 31 (Jan. 14): The seventh-ranked Screaming Eagles led by six, 28-22, with 14 minutes left before going on a 24-6 run over a nine-minute stretch. Freshman forward Liam Duffy led the Hawks with 10 points and six rebounds.
Kentucky Wesleyan 93, Rockhurst 62 (Jan. 12): The Panthers scored 25 unanswered points in the second half. Russell Burns and Terance Tatum led the Hawks with 11 points apiece. Liam Duffy scored nine points on three 3-point field goals. Gabe Jones added a team-high six rebounds.
Northern Kentucky 91, Rockhurst 59 (Jan. 7): The 11th-ranked Norse shot 60.7 percent from the field and 61.9 percent on 3-point shots. James Robinson paced the Hawks with 17 points on five-of-seven shooting. Liam Duffy and Brandon McCann both posted eight points.
Bellarmine 90, Rockhurst 61 (Jan. 5): Fifth-ranked Bellarmine shot 58.3 percent from the field. Kareem Amedu led the Hawks with nine points, four rebounds and two blocks. Duffy and Najja Nicholson scored eight points apiece. Martin Roper II added six points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Loyola Chicago 69, Rockhurst 46 (Dec. 19): Loyola Chicago shot 51 percent from the field and held Rockhurst to 35 percent accuracy. Ben Averkamp scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead three Ramblers in double figures. Kareem Amedu led Rockhurst with nine points.
Rockhurst 82, McPherson 76 (Dec. 16): Kareem Amedu posted 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Rockhurst McPherson (Kan.) at Mason-Halpin Field House. The Hawks jumped out to a 46-36 halftime lead behind 59.3 percent field goal shooting. Martin Roper II scored all 15 of his points in the first half. Brandon McCann and Liam Duffy finished with 12 points apiece. Najja Nicholson added 11 points. The Hawks outrebounded McPherson, 47-28.
Ottawa 93, Rockhurst 90 (Dec. 13): Rockhurst rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit only to fall to the Braves at home. The Hawks outscored Ottawa 62-50 in the second half, including a 27-18 run over the final six minutes. Brandon McCann led the Hawks with 25 points and five rebounds. Najja Nicholson scored 18 points.
Rockhurst 61, Quincy 57 (Dec. 3): James Robinson led the Hawks with 16 points. Robinson's 3-pointer and two free throws gave Rockhurst a 57-52 lead with 2:45 left in the game. Martin Roper II posted nine points and five rebounds. Liam Duffy scored nine points. Russell Burns added eight points and six rebounds.
Rockhurst 72, Illinois Springfield 69 (Dec. 1): Kareem Amedu scored five of his team-high 16 points in overtime to lead Rockhurst. Brandon McCann scored 14 points and James Robinson finished with 12 points. Martin Roper II posted eight points and eight rebounds. Najja Nicholson added eight points and four steals.
Rockhurst 80, Avila 78 (Nov. 26): Brandon McCann led Rockhurst with 25 points in a double overtime win in the Harvesters Classic. McCann hit a layup and two free throws to give the Hawks a 77-72 lead in the second overtime. He scored 11 of his points in the second half and finished with five 3-point field goals in the first 40 minutes. James Robinson finished with 14 points and five assists. Kareem Amedu collected 11 points and nine rebounds. Najja Nicholson added 11 points and three steals.
Rockhurst 64, East Central (Okla.) 59 (Nov. 25): Brandon McCann scored 21 points to lead the Hawks in the Harvesters Classic. McCann's fourth 3-pointer gave the Hawks a 60-57 lead with 1:26 left to play. Kareem Amedu scored 10 points. Martin Roper II added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Central Missouri 86, Rockhurst 72 (Nov. 22): Central Missouri closed the first half on a 26-14 run to take a 46-36 halftime lead. Martin Roper II led the Hawks, 0-3, with 16 points on seven-of-eight field goal shooting. Brandon McCann finished with 14 points behind three 3-point field goals. James Robinson came off the bench to score 12 points and make four steals.
Northwest Missouri State 64, Rockhurst 54 (Nov. 18): The Hawks dropped their season opener in the Hillyard Classic. Kareem Amedu led the Hawks with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Najja Nicholson finished with 10 points. Rockhurst also fell to host Missouri Western 68-58 in the Hillyard Classic. James Robinson posted 17 points and six rebounds.
