Rockhurst Theater Performs Post-Apocalyptic Interpretation of Macbeth
Something wicked comes to Mabee Theater this February when the Rockhurst University Players perform Macbeth, Shakespeare’s classic story of murder, betrayal and lust. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Feb. 24 and 25, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27, in Mabee Theater, located in Sedgwick Hall on the Rockhurst University campus, 54th Street and Troost Avenue.
In this new production, the timeless tale of Macbeth is set across a war-torn, post-apocalyptic world, where power is the only ambition and the supernatural reigns supreme. Macbeth is persuaded to commit the worst form of betrayal, the murder of his king, through the manipulations of his seductive wife. Only the witches can foresee the spiral into guilt and madness that soon overtakes Macbeth and his wife.
Rockhurst students create all Macbeth’s fight choreography, lighting design and set design. Tickets, at the door, are $8 for adults and $3 for students. For more information, contact theater director Susan Proctor, Ph.D., at (816) 501-4040 or susan.proctor@rockhurst.edu.
