Unearthed

Geenlease Gallery presents “Unearthed,” a collection of drawings, prints and sculptures by Mark Cowardin and Michael Kueger that address the destruction and carelessness caused by human beings’ disregard for nature. “Unearthed,” will open with a 6:30 p.m. artists’ talk followed by a 7-9 p.m. reception Friday, Feb. 10, in the Greenlease Gallery.

Both artists visually and rigorously provoke an awareness of the reckless self-interested consumption of resources and the destruction of human, animal and natural life. In this exhibit the artists draw inspiration from the sociopolitical and historical events that have had an impact on our environments.

Cowardin is an assistant professor at Johnson County Community College. He has had solo and group exhibitions at Fine Arts Center Gallery, Bethel College; Epsten Gallery, Kansas City Jewish Museum of Contemporary Art; and 798 Gallery, Beijing China.

Krueger is an associate professor of printmaking at the University of Kansas. He has presented more than 100 lectures and workshops at venues that include Cranbrook Academy of Art, Rhodes Island School of Design andCity College of New York. He has had recent solo shows in San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Chicago and Malmo, Sweden.

The Greenlease Gallery is located between Van Ackeren and Sedgwick halls on the Rockhurst University campus, 54th Street and Troost Avenue. The exhibition continues through March 10.
