Men's Soccer: Five Hawks named All-American

Five Rockhurst Hawks received their NCAA Division II All-American awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America at the NSCAA's annual All-America Luncheon Jan. 14, in conjunction with the 2012 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.

Senior defender Kyle Miller and sophomore forward Mark Magee earned All-American first team honors. Miller was the captain of the Hawks and keyed the Rockhurst defense, which allowed the fewest goals (7) in the nation. Magee led the Hawks with 14 goals, 12 assists and 40 points. He ranked fourth in the nation in assists and ninth in points nationally.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Bass and sophomore midfielder Paolo Scoppola received NSCAA All-American second team accolades. Bass led Division II keepers in goals against average (0.33) and save percentage (.885) while posting 14 shutouts. Scoppola was third on the team with six goals and 16 points.

Freshman midfielder Lucas De Rossi was named to the NSCAA All-American third team. De Rossi, the GLVC Freshman of the Year, scored 13 points on four goals and five assists in helping the Hawks to a 17-2-3 record and a Midwest Regional championship.

Tocco named Region Coach of the Year: Head coach Tony Tocco was named the NSCAA Coach of the Year in the Midwest Region. Tocco became the third men's college soccer coach to reach 600 career wins and finished the season with a 600-168-57 career record. He was also named the Coach of the Year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Three Hawks receive Daktronics All-American honors: Ryan Bass, Kyle Miller and Mark Magee received Daktronics All-American honors. Bass was named to the first team, while Magee and Miller earned All-American second team honors. Bass, Miller and Magee also earned All-Region first team awards along with Paolo Scoppola. Sophomore  forward Nick McDonald, De Rossi and sophomore defender Jon Schreiber were selected to the All-Region second team.
