Impending Ice Storm Causes Schedule Changes to Campus Activities

On Saturday, Jan. 14, no classes will be held. However, the women’s noon and men’s basketball 2 p.m. games will proceed as scheduled against the University of Illinois Springfield. The Greenlease Library and dining services plan to keep normal hours.

The University presently plans to hold its Martin Luther King Jr. Day interfaith prayer service at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, in the auditorium of Pedro Arrupe, S.J., Hall. The opportunities to serve the community will follow the prayer service. Any changes to these plans will be communicated via email on Monday morning by 8 a.m.
During the remainder of Friday and throughout the weekend, Physical Plant was scheduled to continue pre-treating and treating campus for freezing rain that was expected to move into the area late Saturday. Please recognize that due to storm conditions and personnel limitations there may be sidewalks, parking lots, and other areas of campus that experience ice build-up and very slippery conditions. Security will continue to be on duty 24/7 — contact them at 501-4010 for any safety related concerns throughout the weekend. Residence Life will continue to have their on-duty RD and RA staff.
Presently it appears that the greatest risk for freezing rain is Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. Please exercise caution at all times. Refrain from outdoor activities – and if you must go outside please wear footwear that will give you the greatest degree of traction. Avoid driving during this time if at all possible. If you must drive, please use these precautions from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
