Women's Basketball: Lewis holds off Hawks
Lewis connected on 10-of-17 3-point field goals to hold off Rockhurst, 76-67, Saturday in Romeoville, Ill. The loss dropped the Hawks to 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Hawks rallied down the stretch after falling behind by 13 points. Behind a 10-2 run, Rockhurst pulled with five points, 67-62, with 1:07 left to play. The Flyers made nine of 12 free throws in the final minute.
The Hawks closed the first half on a 12-2 run to pull with eight, 34-26, at halftime. Rockhurst shot 46.7 percent from the field in the second half to finish at 41.7 percent (25 of 60) for the game. Lewis shot 48.0 percent from the field overall.
Senior guard Shelby Geiman led the Hawks with 12 points on five-of-nine shooting. Geiman scored 10 of her points on four baskets during the Hawks' late run in the first half. Kendall Hart also finished in double figures with 11 points. Allison Streich posted nine points and seven rebounds. Kara McFarland added eight points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Rockhurst, 3-8, returns home to host Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
