Women’s Basketball: Parkside edges Hawks
Wisconsin-Parkside scored three points in the final minute to edge Rockhurst 59-57 Thursday night in Somers, Wis. The loss dropped the Hawks to 1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Rockhurst’s Kara McFarland 3-pointer with 1:36 left gave the Hawks a 57-56 lead. The Rangers retook the lead on a layup with 44 seconds left. McFarland then missed a jumper with 13 seconds left. Parkside hit one of two free throws with seven seconds left.
Freshman guard Lauren Meyers led the Hawks with a career-high 22 points and five rebounds. Meyers connected on eight-of-10 field goals, including a perfect three-of-three on 3-point shots. Kendall Hart and McFarland both finished with nine points. Taylor Skala added a season-high seven steals.
The Hawks closed the first half on a 16-5 run to pull with six, 31-25, at halftime. Rockhurst shot 52.4 percent from the field in the first half and finished at 47.7 percent (21 of 44) for the game. Parkside shot 50 percent from the field overall.
Rockhurst, 3-7, closes out its two-game road trip at Lewis on Saturday at 1 p.m.
