Men’s Basketball: Hawks suffer setback in Wisconsin
Wisconsin-Parkside used an insurmountable run in the second half to pull away for an 85-63 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night in Somers, Wis. The loss dropped the Hawks to 0-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Hawks went on an 18-6 run in the second half to pull within seven, 60-53, with 9:40 left to play. Parkside scored the next 16 points over four minutes and 19 seconds to take a 76-53 lead.
Junior guard Brandon McCann paced the Hawks with 16 points. McCann connected on six-of-14 field goals, including a four-of-five on 3-point shots. Sophomore forward Cooper Beckett posted a career-high 15 points, in addition to collecting five rebounds and two blocks. Liam Duffy hit three 3-point field goals for nine points. James Robinson added eight points and five assists.
The Hawks made 23 of 56 field goals for 41.1 percent shooting. Parkside shot 54.4 percent on 31-of-57 shooting. The Rangers outscored Rockhurst 44-20 in the paint. The Hawks, 1-9, close out their two-game road trip at Lewis on Saturday at 3 p.m.
