Women’s Basketball: Hawks' late rally falls short
Indianapolis withstood a late Rockhurst rally to post a 53-47 victory over the Hawks Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House. The seventh-ranked Greyhounds hit five of six free throws in the final minute to win their ninth game of the season.
Allison Streich capped a 10-0 run with a layup and two free throws to pull the Hawks within two points, 48-46, with 1:25 left to play. Indianapolis opened the second half on a 17-6 run to grab a 42-28 lead. A 14-0 run gave Rockhurst a 21-14 lead with five minutes left in the first half.
Kara McFarland led the Hawks with 13 points and nine rebounds. Streich posted 11 points and eight rebounds. MaKayla Grahn added 11 points and three assists.
The Hawks, 3-6 and 1-1 in the GLVC, travel to Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday.
Rockhurst 60, Saint Joseph's 44 (Jan. 3)
Rockhurst cruised to a 60-44 victory over Saint Joseph’s in the Hawks’ conference opener at Mason-Halpin. The Hawks opened the second half on a 14-3 run to take a 36-24 lead. Rockhurst scored the last seven points of the first half to close within 21-19 of the Pumas at halftime.
Streich finished with nine points and five rebounds. Grahn also finished with nine points. Melanie Siscos added eight points and four rebounds. McFarland scored seven points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Taylor Skala contributed five steals off the bench.
