Did last semester not go as well as you had planned? Are you looking to bump up your GPA in the new year? Here are some tips from us at Rockhurst.
Improve your Focus
The first step in getting your grades up is getting better at focusing. Create a space to study and work in that works for you. A place that is free of distractions and comfortable to be in is a great place to start. That can be the library or the desk in your bedroom, as long as you feel like you can get work done. Choose some music without lyrics or work with the ambient sound around you. Lo-Fi hip-hop beats have actually been shown to increase focus!
Get Help if You Need It
Your professors are here to help you be successful. They are happy to explain a topic a bit further or give you some extra time if you really need it. All you need to do is ask! The Learning Center is also here at Rockhurst to give you any help you may need if your professor doesn’t have a lot of time or if you feel uncomfortable asking them for help. The best students know when to ask for assistance and are always better for it.
Make a Change
If you really feel that your major and classes aren’t working out for you, it may be time to talk to an advisor about a change. We can come into college with an idea of what we want to do and how we’re going to do it but plans constantly change and that’s okay! Work with our great group of advisors to see where your skills lie and how you can utilize those to find success and growth.
