Physical Therapy Pre-Admission

Freshman Pre-Admission

Exceptional students may be awarded a freshman pre-admission guarantee based on a combination of ACT or SAT scores, high school grades, class rank and letters of recommendation. Those awarded freshman pre-admission are still required to follow the same application and interview process as required for all students.

Eligibility for pre-admission in Rockhurst University’s Physical Therapy Program:

  • A minimum high school grade point average of 3.4 on a scale of 4.0
  • Three units of college preparatory mathematics courses
  • Three units of college preparatory science courses
  • Four units of English courses
  • A minimum SAT score of 1200 (Critical Reading and Math scores) or a minimum ACT score of 26 (Composite)

Requirements for maintaining pre-admission status in the Physical Therapy Program:
Freshman Year through Senior Year

  • Maintain at least a 3.4 science pre-requisite GPA and a 3.4 cumulative GPA
  • Transcripts are checked annually at the end of each academic calendar year. PT Pre-admit students must provide the PT Department a copy of their transcript following the completion of each spring semester,
  • Meet once annually with a DPT Program representative,
  • Complete all prerequisite classes as specified by the Department of Physical Therapy Education
  • Complete a total of 32 hours of observation: 16 hours in an acute care setting and 16 hours in another area of physical therapy,
  • Demonstrate progression toward the completion of a baccalaureate degree by the end of the fourth year (before entry into the Physical Therapy Program), and
  • Recommendation: Maintain active membership in the PURPOSE (pre-health student club)1 by attending, at a minimum, 2-3 meetings per year

No later than end of Junior Year

  • Take the GRE examination

No later than September 1 of Senior Year:

  • ​Complete the application process as required by PTCAS which includes:
    • Submitting three letters of recommendation 
    • Completing a written essay
    • Submitting scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
    • Completing a personal interview with a member of the PT faculty (Interviews are conducted in December)

1Undergraduate students at Rockhurst have the opportunity to join the Pre-Physical Therapy/Pre-Occupational Therapy Club and network with faculty and fellow applicants.

 

PT Scholars Pre-Admission

Rockhurst students who demonstrate outstanding academic work after their freshman year may be offered a pre-admission guarantee with a PT Scholars award. Those awarded a PT Scholars pre-admission award are still required to follow the same application and interview process as required for all students.

Eligibility for PT Scholars pre-admission in Rockhurst University's Physical Therapy Program:

  • Achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Achieve a science grade point average of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Submit a letter of intent and copies of all transcripts to the Graduate Admissions Office before the start of the students sophomore year.

Requirements for maintaining PT Scholars pre-admission in Rockhurst University's Physical Therapy Program:
Sophomore Year through Senior Year

  • Achieve and maintain a 3.40 cumulative and all science grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) each year and through the end of the RU senior year,
  • Students are required to submit their transcripts to CHHS’s Director of Academic Advising to conduct a transcript evaluation.
  • Meet annually with a DPT Program representative,
  • Recommendation:  Maintain active membership in PURPOSE (pre-health student club)1 by attending, at a minimum, 2-3 meetings per year,
  • Complete a total of 32 hours of observation: 16 hours in an acute care setting and 16 hours in another area of physical therapy,
  • Complete all required prerequisite coursework as specified by the Department of Physical Therapy by the beginning of the PT program,
  • Complete the physical therapy application for admission by September 1st prior to start of the PT program,
  • Interview before beginning the PT program, and
  • Begin the PT program the summer semester immediately following successful completion of baccalaureate degree program

 

Transfer Student Pre-Admission

If you have completed at least two years of undergraduate coursework and have attained cumulative and science prerequisite GPAs of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale), you may be awarded a transfer student pre-admission guarantee. Those awarded transfer student pre-admission are still required to follow the same application and interview process as required for all students.

Eligibility for transfer student pre-admission in Rockhurst University’s Physical Therapy Program:

  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate coursework.
  • Have attained cumulative and science prerequisite GPAs of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

Requirements for maintaining transfer student pre-admission status in the Physical Therapy Program:
Junior Year through Senior Year

  • Maintain at least a 3.4 science prerequisite GPA and a 3.4 cumulative GPA each semester enrolled at Rockhurst.
  • Transcripts are checked annually at the end of each academic calendar year. PT Transfer Pre-admit students must provide the PT Department a copy of their transcript following the completion of each spring semester.
  • Meet once annually with a DPT Program representative
  • Complete all prerequisite classes as specified by the Department of Physical Therapy Education
  • Complete a total of 32 hours of observation: 16 hours in an acute care setting and 16 hours in another area of physical therapy
