Volleyball: Hawks improve record to 14-2
Maggie Hummel posted 10 kills to lead Rockhurst to a 3-0 victory at Illinois Springfield on Saturday. Rockhurst rallied from a 16-11 deficit to capture the first set, 25-19. The Hawks won the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-16. Rockhurst, now 14-2 overall, has won its last six matches.
Kelsey Stratman finished with nine kills and five blocks. She leads the GLVC in solo blocks (15) and ranks second in blocks (1.49 per set) and eighth in hitting percentage (.303) in the conference. The freshman middle hitter from Omaha, Neb., was named the GLVC Baden Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Katie Loescher totaled nine kills and Emily Ready added eight kills. Whitney Kostal led the Hawks with 30 assists and 14 digs. Victoria Mahl collected 11 digs.
On Friday, Stratman collected 15 points, nine kills and nine blocks to power Rockhurst to a 3-0 victory at Quincy. Rockhurst breezed to a 25-9 win in the first set and won the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-20. Hummel finished with nine kills and three blocks. Kostal posted 27 assists and nine digs. Lauren Poulicek, Riley Russell, Kareen Schwartze and Mahl combined for 31 digs.
Rockhurst, second in the GLVC West with a 6-1 record, returns home to host Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m.
