Softball: Hawks sweep Missouri-St. Louis
Kayla Hoyer held Missouri-St. Louis to one run in two games to power the Hawks to 8-0 and 2-1 wins over the Tritons Sunday at RU's Loyola Park. Hoyer (5-7) struck out 10 hitters and allowed seven hits in 13 innings.
Natalie Johnson led the Hawks with three hits and three RBIs in the first game. The junior shortstop hit a solo home run in the third and added a two-run single in the sixth. Alex Jacobson led off the scoring with a two-run home run in the second. Toya Nelson also collected three hits. Lizzy Tucker and Katelyn Bakey each finished with two hits. In the second game, Jacobson proved the game-winning hit with an RBI single in the first inning.
On Saturday, Rockhurst and Maryville split a doubleheader at Loyola Park. The Hawks won the first game, 4-1, behind a three-run third inning. Bakey doubled home two runs and Kayla Thomas added a run-scoring single. Hoyer went the distance to pick up her third win of the season. Maryville edged the Hawks, 4-3, in the second game. Jacobson hit a pair of doubles and Debbie Lewis added two hits.
The Hawks, 6-17 and 4-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, play at Lincoln on Wednesday and return to conference play Saturday at Missouri S&T.
