Baseball: Hawks sweep Saginaw Valley State
Senior third baseman Scott Bradbury was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs to lead Rockhurst to a 7-2 victory over Saginaw Valley State in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla. Bradbury singled home a run in the first inning and added a run-scoring double in the seventh. Anthony Davis collected an RBI single in the sixth.
Senior right-hander Mark Himmelberg pitched the first four innings to pick up his first win of the season. Mark Sappington came out of the bullpen to post his first save of the season. He struck out six hitters in three innings. He has 24 strikeouts and one walk in 15 innings with a 0.00 ERA this season.
The Hawks came back in the second game to edge Saginaw Valley 3-2. Patrick Chandler singled twice and drove in the Hawks’ final run in the fourth. The Hawks scored twice in the third with the help of two walks and an error. Nick Lichtenberger and Josh Tols combined for a six-hitter. Tols pitched the final three innings for his third save of the season.
Rockhurst, 4-1, plays a single game at Rollins on Tuesday during the Hawks’ spring break trip to Central Florida.
