Helzberg MBA Concentrations

Rockhurst University in Kansas City offers several specific areas for you to earn your Helzberg MBA. These concentrations give you the opportunity to focus on your individual interests:

Concentration Requirements: All Helzberg MBA concentrations require 8 elective hours, with each concentration stating specific requirements below.

Organizational Leadership

Requirements: A minimum of 8 hours of 6000-level Organizational Leadership courses outside of the MBA core.

  • MG 6001 Spirituality & Values Leadership (2 credit hours)
  • MG 6068 Crisis Management (1 credit hour)
  • MG 6275 Developing Leadership in Organizations (2 credit hours)
  • MG 6375 Leadership (2 credit hours)
  • MG 6380 HR & Managing People (2 credit hours)
  • MG 6391 Conflict Management ( 1 credit hour)
  • MG 6430 Organizational Theory & Design (2 credit hours)
  • MG 6460 Innovation (2 credit hours)
  • MG 6680 Organizational Change (2 credit hours)

Nonprofit Leadership

Requirements: A minimum of eight nonprofit administration (NP) elective hours from the list below.

  • NP 6010. Nonprofit Governance and Executive Leadership (3 credit hours)
  • NP 6050. Resource Development for Social Impact (3 credit hours)
  • NP 6090. Program Planning and Evaluation (3 credit hours)
  • NP 6200. Marketing Communications for Nonprofits in the Digital Age (3 credit hours)
  • NP 6300. Charitable Giving and Relationship Management Seminar (3 credit hours)

Business Intelligence

Requirements: A minimum of eight business intelligence elective hours designated for this concentration listed below.
Prerequisites: Admission to the Helzberg MBA program and any BIA prerequisite courses not waived. BIA 6300 is required as your core option class.

Required:

  • BIA 6301. Applied Data Mining (2 credit hours)
  • BIA 6302. Data Visualization (2 credit hours)
  • BIA 6308. Analytics and Strategy (2 credit hours)
     

Plus choose one of these courses:

  • BIA 6306. Web and Social Media Analytics (2 credit hours)
  • BIA 6307. Dashboard Creation and Implementation (2 credit hours)

Data Science

Requirements: A minimum of eight data science course elective hours designated for this concentration listed below.
Prerequisites: Admission to the Helzberg MBA program and any BIA prerequisite courses not waived. BIA 6300 is required as your core option class.

Required:

  • BIA 6301. Applied Data Mining (2 credit hours)
  • BIA 6302. Data Visualization (2 credit hours)
     

Plus any two of these courses:

  • BIA 6303. Predictive Models (2 credit hours)
  • BIA 6304. Text Mining (2 credit hours)
  • BIA 6305. Preparation and Analysis for Big Data (2 credit hours)

At this time it is not possible receive concentrations or certificates in both business intelligence and data science. Students are welcome to take all 18 credits, but only one certificate/concentration will be issued.

Health Care Management

Requirements: A minimum of eight health care (HC) elective hours.

  • HC 6150. Healthcare Systems (2 credit hours)
  • HC 6260. Medical Practice Management (2 credit hours)
  • HC 6300. Health Policy (2 credit hours)
  • HC 6400. Health Care Information Technology (2 credit hours)
  • HC 6350. Quality Improvement in Health Care (2 credit hours)

Finance

Requirements: A minimum of eight finance (FN) elective hours.

  • FN 6600. Investments (2 credit hours)
  • FN 6410. Venture Capital (2 credit hours)
  • FN 6420. Financial Risk Management (2 credit hours)
  • FN 6460. Personal Financial Planning (2 credit hours)
  • FN 6320. Mergers and Acquisitions (2 credit hours)

Management

Requirements: A minimum of eight management (MG), or marketing (MK) elective hours. Other MG or MK electives not on this specific concentration list are considered and applicable for this concentration.

  • MG 6098. Networking for Success (1 credit hour)
  • MG 6352. Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis (1 credit hour)
