The Rev. Barton Geger, S.J., to Discuss Care for the Whole Person

The Rev. Barton T. Geger, S.J, commemorates Rockhurst University’s Ignatian Heritage Month in his talk, “Cura Personalis: How to Live the Jesuit Mission with Courage and Consolation.” Fr. Geger’s lecture, sponsored by the Visiting Scholar Lecture Series and the university’s Office of Mission and Ministry, begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, in Arrupe Hall Auditorium.

Each academic year, Rockhurst explores one of its six core values. This year’s core value is Cura Personalis—Care for the Whole Person. Rockhurst is committed to caring for others in and out of the classroom and strives to help people understand their inherent human dignity, to reach their greatest human potential, to share their experiences and knowledge with others, and to act in a way that reflects this growth.

In his talk, Fr. Geger will discuss how Cura Personalis provides practical guidance to those who wish to dedicate themselves to “the greater glory of God,” which is the heart of the Jesuit mission.

A native of St. Louis, Fr. Geger entered the Society of Jesus in 1990 and was ordained in 2001. He earned masters’ degrees in philosophy (Saint Louis University) and systematic theology (Heythrop College, London), a Licentiate in sacred theology (Weston School of Theology, Cambridge, Mass.), and a doctorate of sacred theology (Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Madrid). Now at Boston College, Fr. Geger is a research scholar at the Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies, an assistant professor in the School of Theology and Ministry and general editor of Studies in the Spirituality of Jesuits.
