Greenlease Gallery presents "Drop Unit" by May Tveit

Friday, February 8, 2019 - 6:30pm to 9:00pm
Greenlease Gallery

The Greenlease Gallery of Art presents new sculptural work by May Tveit in her exhibit titled “Drop Unit.” Tveit selected cardboard as her primary medium for her works because its utilitarian purposes (boxes and packaging) create a conversation that meanders between sophistication and the every day. Tveit’s artistic abilities allow her to translate her pieces into powerfully minimal and beautifully industrial sculptures.

Tveit earned a bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, studied in Rome in the RISD European Honors Program, and received her master’s degree from the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy. Her work was featured in Art in America and Art Practical. She received a Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Arts Award, an Andy Warhol Foundation Rocket Grant, an American Institute of Architects Allied Arts & Craftsmanship Award, an Art OMI international artist residency and multiple Arts KC inspiration grants. Her work is included in the collections of Hallmark, National Center for Drug Free Sport, Fishnet Security, The MDC Museum of Art & Design, Capitol Federal Hall and private collections. Tveit teaches at the University of Kansas.

Tveit will discuss her works at 6:30 p.m. followed by a 7-9 p.m. reception Friday, Feb. 8, in the Greenlease Gallery. Works will be on display through March 23, except during the Univeristy's spring break March 11-17. For information, contact gallery director Anne Pearce at 816-501-4407 or
