RU Leaders

Rockhurst University’s Undergraduate Leadership Program
RU leaders is a comprehensive leadership program that provides opportunities for you to discover, develop, and use your leadership skills and talents through training and experiential learning.

RU leaders

Benefits of Being an RU Leader:

  • Receive progressive levels of training.
  • Build a resume and earn academic credit at the same time
  • Earn a leadership certificate at the end of four years of training
  • Gain valuable information and skill training for on and off-campus leadership positions
  • Requires no previous leadership experience

Three components to earning RU Leader certificate (can take place throughout 4 years at Rockhurst):

Learning

  • Emerging Leaders Course – a mandatory course taken freshman or sophomore year.  The course is designed to allow you the opportunity to learn about and reflect upon  various leadership topics (Greek leadership and RA classes also can be incorporated)
  • Courses Within Major – As an RU leader, you will pick three classes that have best helped to develop your leadership skills, and will reflect upon your experiences within those classes
  • Capstone Project – RU leaders will create a capstone project related to each major, to be completed senior year.  In this project, you will reflect upon leadership experience during your time at Rockhurst University

Leadership

  • RU Leaders Meetings – RU Leaders will participate in meetings/ workshops throughout each semester.  These meetings provide opportunities both to develop the program and for you to reflect upon current leadership experiences
  • RU Leaders Mentor – Senior RU Leaders members will serve as mentors for one year to incoming RU Leaders, assisting them through their own leadership development
  • Leadership Conference – RU leaders will be required to participate in one leadership conference

Service

  • Service Learning Hours – RU leaders will work with Alexis Petri, director of the Center for Service learning, to develop a service learning outline for time at Rockhurst University.
  • Reflection – As an RU leader, each student will create a learning, leadership, and service portfolio, allowing you to reflect upon each experience.  This portfolio will also serve as an excellent resource for both students and employers during resume building and job search.
