Individual Counseling
The Counseling Center provides individual counseling on a short-term
basis. Clients typically attend between 2 - 10 sessions, depending
on the needs of the individual and the nature of their concerns. A
wide variety of issues can be addressed, including adjusting to college,
managing stress and anxiety, dealing with depression, improving relationships
with family or friends, changing behavior patterns, grief and loss
issues, drug and alcohol use and eating disorders. Typically, clients
meet with a counselor on a weekly basis and sessions are scheduled
for 50 minutes.
Group Counseling
Clients have the opportunity to explore relevant issues,
gain understanding of themselves and provide peer support
in the context of a group setting. Psychoeducational
groups are offered to address specific issues, such
as stress management, eating disorders, drug/alcohol
use, or family functioning. General psychotherapy groups
are offered to provide particular support within a group
format to clients who present with a variety of psychological
concerns. Currently, we are providing Self-Growth
Group which is an open process-oriented general
therapy group for participants addressing a broad array
of issues.
Couples Counseling
Therapeutic support is offered to couples on a short-term
basis. To be eligible for services, one partner must
be a Rockhurst University student, staff, or faculty
member. Additionally, if desired by the client, a therapist
can meet conjointly with a client and his/her family
member(s).
Mental Health Testing
Psychological testing and drug/alcohol assessments are
available on a limited basis at the discretion of clinical
staff.
Outreach/Workshop
Part of our service mission is outreach that focuses
on prevention, student development and wellness. We
are committed to work closely with faculty, staff, and
students to support student academic success. If you
are interested in having a program presented to your
organizations, classes, or residence halls, please contact
us. The followings are a few of the outreach topics
that are frequently requested: anxiety, depression,
communication, eating concerns and body image, family
issues, relationships, self-esteem, sexual responsibility,
substance abuse, stress management, and trauma response.
