Membership Requirements and Registration for Fraternity & Sorority Recruitment
Interested in joining a sorority in the Spring? Registration is NOW OPEN for Panhellenic Formal Recruitment, January 10-13, 2014!
Contact Megan Brower at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Students join fraternities and sororities through recruitment, a mutual selection process that allows affiliated members and potential new members the opportunity to meet and learn about one other. Rockhurst follows a deferred recruitment system, which does not allow first semester freshman to affiliate with any social Greek organization until their second semester at Rockhurst.
By participating in Formal Recruitment, you will gain insights into the benefits of joining a Greek organization: lifetime friendships, academic excellence, development of leadership and organizational skills, involvement in philanthropic activities, and a national network of alumni/ae who will share the same bonds of friendship that are generated through membership in a Greek organization.
The purpose of Formal Recruitment Registration is threefold: It enables fraternity and sorority chapters to know who is interested in joining, it permits time to check the potential members’ academic performance, and it guarantees equal opportunity to all organizations to recruit potential members. In accordance with the Rockhurst Policy on Recruitment, a student interested in joining a fraternity or sorority must register with the Office of Student Life before Formal Recruitment begins to determine eligibility for joining a Greek organization.
Recruitment is open to all students, including transfer students, who meet the following eligibility requirements:
Enrolled at Rockhurst for at least one semester;
Completed twelve (12) academic hours at Rockhurst, hours taken during high school may NOT count towards these 12 hours;
Enrolled full-time (twelve hours or more) during the entire semester;
Have a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale;
Have registered with the Office of Student Life;
Had their academic qualifications checked by the Office of Student Life before Formal Recruitment to determine eligibility for membership;
Not on Disciplinary Probation (Warning and Conduct Probations are not included).
First semester transfer students must have earned a 2.5/4.0 GPA and 15 credit hours earned at their previous institution

Fall Party is a time to interact with sorority women and meet a lot of other students on campus who might be interested in joining a sorority. You'll receive information at the information nights about Fall Party. It's a great time to interact with many students and learn more about sorority life. Once Fall Party is complete you may register online for Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment.
Formal recruitment is a four day mutual selection process that provides women interested in joining a sorority the opportunity to get to know the sororities and the sorority women. There are three different "rounds" of events where interested women are potentially provided with the opportunity to get to know more about the sororities. Women who are registered for sorority recruitment will be able to move into the residence halls on Friday, January 10, 2014.
You will be able to register online for Sorority Formal Recruitment after Fall Party. All formal recruitment registrations must be in by December 13, 2014, to avoid a $10 late fee, and registrations will not be accepted after Jan. 6, 2014.
