Students, faculty and staff have access to the
Rockhurst Telecommunications Device for the Deaf
(TDD machine), located in the Security Department.
It can be used for both incoming and outgoing
calls. The Security staff have been trained in
TDD use and etiquette to facilitate guided access
for those needing assistance.
Some Points of TDD Etiquette:
These few tags added to all conversations
using the TDD access machine will make your conversations
go much smoother :
"GA" means GO
AHEAD.
Type "GA" when you
want the person to whom you are speaking to
start typing. When you read "GA," it
is your turn to type.
"Q" is the same as
a QUESTION MARK (?).
"SK" means STOP
KEYING, Type "SK" when
you want to end your conversation. If someone
types "SK" to you, type "SKSK" if
you are also finished talking. When both you
and the person you're speaking with have typed "SK" you
can hang up.
"GA or SK" is a short
way to say, "Do you have anything else to
say? I'm done." - When you read this
you can type another message or end with "SKSK".
A typical TDD conversation using GA, Q
and SK:
Joe: HELLO JANE THIS
IS JOE, I WILL BE HOME AT 6 OK Q GA
Jane: GOOD, I WILL SEE YOU THEN GA
OR SK
Joe: OK BYE SKSK |
